"This original creation designed especially for La Bâtie is above all the story of an encounter: an artistic encounter, first of all, between the jazz quartet led by Geneva guitarist Louis Matute and the vocal ensemble La Sestina, composed of eight singers and directed by Adriano Giardina; and a musical encounter, with a fusion of genres and periods, contemporary jazz and sacred music, polyphony and instrumental, the 2000s and the Renaissance. Desacralizing the liturgical aspect of 16th century songs to turn them into a message of peace and hope that is accessible to all, this is essentially the ambition of this unusual combo. To revive this heritage of the past and give it new resonance, the musicians deconstruct it and combine it with modern jazz harmonies. All that’s left is for the audience to let themselves slide along the banks of the rivers of Babylon."
